cd player not recognizing CD

Apologies if it's a dumb question but, if you eject the cd using Kscd does
it work. I ask because in the default set-up on my system Kubuntu has the
cdrom link pointing to my cd-rw, not the cdrom. I had to set Kscd to point
to cdrom1.
