Same problem here - using the Preview installation I did an update. Next time after booting I got a blank bottom panel. Frightening for a newbie! After lots of right-clicking around the panel I managed to get a Menu and to find I could add some features back. Could it be a cunning trick to get newbies to learn more? It's certainly one way to get a custom-made distro.

But nevertheless, I do have to say that I really like what I have seen so far of Kubuntu and I'm looking forward to getting it running "for real". One general problem I've
encountered is that perhaps the advice in the Unofficial Ubuntu Guide is not always relevant to Kubuntu. That may be obvious to Ubuntu users but not to someone like me who has only just come to Linux and has never used Ubuntu. For instance I tried to use the command "gedit" but Kubuntu did not understand.
