I have this staged in a branch, waiting for doko to tell me it's ok to
upload and Riddell to discuss how to handle the repo since it is a
source copy repo which we don't like :/

FWIW, I made commit 3 and 4 one commit. git rebase -i $hash is your
friend for squashing commits.

Please note for future patches that we require patches to be dep3, and
(in theory anyway) to be approved by upstream or at least someone who
understands the code before it gets added.
