The GNOME folks just forced the use of SMB1/NT1 for discovery purposes
in Nautilus/GVFS:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gvfs/merge_requests/12/diffs

We might consider doing something similar until a better fix can be
implemented.
