Alexis, that doesn't appear to be the same problem. In my case, X loaded
and, in fact, kde loaded as well. It's just that nothing requiring io-
slave would work which covers a good deal of the kde desktop. The more I
think about it, I may just have updated from a mirror that was not
completely in sync with the new kde packages which left kde in an
inconsistent state.  The final update that worked was two days after my
initial try and it may be the case that the mirror I used had corrected
this problem over those two days.
