Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace

Kubuntu 10.10.
Testet in an old installation (upgraded since 9.04) and also in a fresh installation (VirtualBox).
- Place a plasmiod (tested with lancelot) on the desktop.
- Use the resize-icon of the plasmoid and resize it for a while (about 20 or 30 seconds).
  Hold the mouse button down for this time, so that the plasmoid continiously changes it's size.
-> This will end in a total black screen (crash of the KDE session or just the plasma desktop?).

There is a good reproducibility when using the Lancelot plasmoid which has to be installed separatly.
But I even got the crash when resizing other widgets.

After the crash (and reboot, indifferent what shutdown methode was used), trying to login (with the graphical login) failed without error message. It just comes back to the login screen. Contents of ~/.xsession-errors was:
    Xsession: X session started for new_user at Thu Dec 9 14:19:40 CET 2010
    Setting IM through im-switch for locale=en_US.
    Start IM through /etc/X11/xinit/xinput.d/all_ALL linked to /etc/X11/xinit/xinput.d/default.
    [: 225: ==: unexpected operator
    startkde: Starting up...
    Connecting to deprecated signal QDBusConnectionInterface::serviceOwnerChanged(QString,QString,QString)
    kded(2016): Communication problem with "kded" , it probably crashed.
    Error message was: "org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown" : " "The name org.kde.kded was not provided by any .service files" "
    <unknown program name>(2014)/ KStartupInfo::createNewStartupId: creating:  "VBox-Kubuntu-10;1291900782;243958;2014_TIME0" : "unnamed app"
    startkde: Shutting down...
    klauncher: Exiting on signal 1
    startkde: Running shutdown scripts...
    startkde: Done.

Failsafe login does also fail (xsession-errors was a little different).
Login to a different account or from console (e.g. Ctrl+Alt+F1) works.
Deleting the user's /var/tmp/kdecache-$USER solves this subsequent login problem.

(spending much hours of work to find out that I have to delete kdecache
to got my account back...)

Joe.
