Unfortunately, I was not so successful. Establishing a wireless
connection is still a matter of luck with the new version. And what's
worse: 3G connections don't work any more; the plasmoid has crashed
Plasma a couple of times while creating new 3G connections or trying to
connect throug 3G.

So I went back to wicd and umtsmon.
