[Bug 387876] Re: kcron should be in the default install

Heya!
We (that is me and a fellow developer) just concluded the following:
cron is not very useful unless you know how to program or use a command
line. After all it's primary use case is to execute scripts for various
tasks (most importantly cleanups). Anyway. There are certainly a lot of
people who need to schedule tasks, and they certainly all now how to do
that with cron, but the average user probably does not have desire for
this, nor would they be able to use it (it's not like you can tell kcron
"go cleanup my harddisk" or something similar).
So while there is certainly a need for cron and kcron, we do not think
that it's availability by default would make most users happier than
they are now. Also, I'd like to note that I also only use cron for
server maintenace tasks but not anything on my desktop ;-)
I am closing this bug report as won't fix since we don't feel that it
would benefit most users. If you feel that we are wrong, feel free to
reopen the report and explain why you think that it would indeed be
useful for average users who have no clue about command line magic and
how to use it for their good.
In any case we wish you a nice day and thank you for this report :)
