I had a huge dependency problem during the most recent KUBUNTU 8.10 upgrade. It seems that the cause was that 
digikam (2:0.9.4-1ubuntu1) depends on libkexiv2-3, but that conflicts with the newer libkexiv2-7 on which other packages depend.
