Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: kde-systemsettings
Kubuntu 8.04 with current updates 2008-06-04:
After adjusting monitor settings with 'Monitor & Display' tool in
systemsettings, my xorg.conf file is totaly screwed-up. After logging
out, X doesn't start any more. Instead I got the fallback solution from
'bullet proof X' where I could adjust the settings. Not sure if this
bullet proof X fallback is in Kubuntu by default, because I also
installed ubuntu-desktop.
But apart from that:
'Monitor & Display' tool totaly screwed-up my xorg.conf on a Thinkpad
Z61 with Intel GMA950 and now on T61 with Intel GM965!
This is a critical bug in my point of view, because a beginner doesn't
know what to do!
Steps to reproduce:
1. Open > Main menu > Systemsettings
2. Choose 'Monitor & Display' settings
3. Become system administrator
4. Adjust the settings for an external non TFT monitor, so that it is below your laptop display (_no_ clone mode)
5. Logout you session and X server won't start correctly any more
I attached xorg.conf files - xorg.conf.original is the file which was
detected by Kubuntu while installing it
** Affects: kde-systemsettings (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
