I'm using ktorrent 3.1.1 from PPA for Kubuntu Members - KDE 4 Repository and there is some bugs in current ppa-version:

Joris Guisson - ktorrent developer suggests to try new bugfix version
build with debug info to collect additional information if bug still
exists:

"The most notable fixes are a problem which can cause a lot of memory usage, several crashes, and a bug in the file deselection code. The performance of the GUI and the downloading code has also been improved."
