Summary: Cannot Configure Epson C80 under breezy
Product: Ubuntu
Version: unspecified
Platform: i386
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: cupsys
AssignedTo: debzilla at ubuntu.com
ReportedBy: rob at robandmegan.net
QAContact: kubuntu-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com
The printer may or may not be detected in the KDE/Ubuntu Add printer Wizard. Escputil
finds it well all the time. Manually choosing it, and Selecting the recommended
choice (Epson Stylus C80(Foomatic + gimp-print)) will either precipitate a crash in
the GUI or give a message box saying: "Unable to load the requested driver:
Unable to create the Foomatic driver [Epson-Stylus_C80,gimp-print]. Either that
driver does not exist, or you don't have the required permissions to perform that
operation."
Selecting another choice, Epson Stylus C80(CUPS + Gimp-Print 4.2.7) still however
does not allow printing to occur.
Here is the info from /var/log/cups/error_log for a recent attempt:
I [07/Jan/2006:17:04:59 -0800] Started filter /usr/lib/cups/filter/pstoraster (PID

I [07/Jan/2006:17:04:59 -0800] Started filter /usr/lib/cups/filter/rastertoprinter
(PID 22968) for job 10.
I [07/Jan/2006:17:04:59 -0800] Started backend /usr/lib/cups/backend/parallel (PID
22969) for job 10.
E [07/Jan/2006:17:04:59 -0800] [Job 10] Unable to open parallel port device file
"/dev/lp0": Permission denied
I have used this printer under Linux for several years, this is the only time that I
have had problems configuring it.
