I can confirm this. And it's not just with USB, but with IEEE 1394 as well. At
a guess, it seems to affect ANY hotpluggable media, regardless of bus.
I have also observed that it mounts the filesystem on /media/usbdisk/ (or
/media/ieee1394disk/) as well as /media/sda1/ (depending on how many prior
mounts are in place).
It WILL work with GNOME. GNOME opens a new Nautilus window with the proper
contents, and since I also have kubuntu-desktop installed, it opens a Konq
window with the same error message as if I were running KDE (which, in fact,
opens TWO Konq windows).
An installation of kubuntu-desktop on an ubuntu system prior to October 11 DOES
work as it should, including an icon on the desktop and an open Konq window with
the device's contents within. A change in the affected KDE packages sometime
between October 10 and October 11 will likely have caused this issue to surface.
I have not yet tested with a straight-up Kubuntu install image as per the
original report.
