Confirmed here: running kcontrol from the command-line and attempting to
edit and Apply e.g. a change to the Tapping->Fingers->Tapping->Right Top
entry yields the following debug output:

kcontrol: load()
kcontrol: 0
kcontrol: save()
kcontrol: ERROR: Access denied to driver shared memory
