I think there may be a solution in editing the /etc/kde3/kmail.antispamrc file so that the SpamBayes tool section, which 
for me starts with the following... 
 
[Spamtool #5] 
Ident=spambayes 
 
...has the following entry... 
 
Executable=sb_filter.py -x 
 
...instead of... 
 
Executable=sb_filter.py 
 
This modification, based on the bogofilter definition which appears to have an Executable entry whose result is to print 
the version information, just causes SpamBayes to print some usage information and return, as opposed to waiting 
indefinitely on standard input.
