Dear Kernel-Team,
sorry for bothering and contacting you directly.
My new AMD64 based computer was running fine with kernel 6.2 since mid
of December 2023.
The upgrade to 6.5.0-14-generic (10th Jan 2024) ends in it's not booting
any more with MCE error messages in a very early stage:
> [ 1.062769] kernel: mce: [Hardware Error]: Machine check events logged
> [ 1.062773] kernel: mce: [Hardware Error]: CPU 0: Machine Check: 0 Bank 27: faa000000000080b
> [ 1.062782] kernel: mce: [Hardware Error]: TSC 0 MISC d012000200000000 SYND 5d000000 IPID 1002e00000500
> [ 1.062790] kernel: mce: [Hardware Error]: PROCESSOR 2:a20f12 TIME 1704978569 SOCKET 0 APIC 0 microcode a20120e
Reverting to the 6.2.0-39-generic kernel and these messages vanish
completely (no mce errors in dmesg).
However, I couldn't find any hint what to do. It seems I'm the only one
having this issue at the moment.
I posted it to Ubuntuusers Germany. However, it had over 100 reads but
no response after two days.

It seems a similar issue was reported a couple of years ago. The
recommendation was to use mcelog to have a look into the machine check
logs. Only an old version of this package is available and using this it
says it does not know the CPU.
