Hrm, hard to say.  Examining Documentation/stable_kernel_rules.txt [1]
I'd say your patch meets the criteria which includes "New device IDs and
quirks are also accepted." and "It or an equivalent fix must already
exist in Linus' tree (upstream).".  So maybe try submitting it to
stable.  The worst that happens is they say no and life goes on.
