At the same time the kernel module default was changed, the modprobe
option was removed. The net effect is 'no change', e.g., Jaunty
continues to ignore HPA. In fact, the default has been to ignore HPA
since Feisty (IIRC).

You can always use a command line boot option for Jaunty:
libata.ignore_hpa=0
