Plans for Kernel update for 8.04LTS ?

Dear Kernel Team Members,

do you have plans to update the kernel in Ubuntu 8.04LTS from 2.6.24.x to 2.6.26 ? A search for an answer found no "official" statements. Therefore I would like to ask the developers.

The backgrund of the question is that 2.6.26 has greatly enhanced support for new drivers (which new hardware unfortunately requires). Which other possibilities exist without building an own kernel if no update plans would exist? Do you plan to make available more backports or do one has to change from LTS to a newer Ubuntu release?
