I just upgraded then kernel to 2.6.10-14.23 using update-manager. It
pauses after printing out the following messages:
[ 9.320000] Uniform CD-ROM driver Revision: 3.20
[ 9.324000] sr 1:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg0 type 5
I put down the message after booting into single user mode. In multiuser
mode, the splash screen just pauses there at the beginning of booting.
Kernel still responds to key strokes, e.g. Ctrl-Alt-Del.
After several minutes pause, initramfs console shows up:
/bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off
(initramfs)
The hardware is ThinkPad X32, with Ultrabase dock station. But the
problem occurs as well when the laptop is undocked.
I am writing this message on my desktop (dapper). I'll submit more
detailed information once I managed to boot into the laptop.
