The relevant version number is that of the package containing the kernel
you are running (linux-image-x.y.z...).  2.6.12.14 is the version number of
the metapackage which selects the default kernel for you.

Kernel team, perhaps we should use a different version numbering scheme for
the metapackage to avoid this confusion...
