Public bug reported:
This installation has a RAID 5 array created from three partitions
(sda3, sdb1, sdc1), with a LVM VG on top of it.
When booting, about 30% of the time, the RAID array simply fails to
assemble, showing the message in the attached screenshot. As a result,
I'm dropped into a busybox shell from initramfs. Once there, the problem
is solved by simply issuing:
mdadm --assemble --scan
exit
After that, the boot resumes normally. There is really no problem with
the RAID at all. Everything is fine on a second try.
Investigating the kernel messages during the affected boots, it seems
that SATA disks are probed in parallel (this is a multi-core machine),
and it may be possible that md starts assembling the arrays while some
disks are still not completely available.
