I have also the same problem.
I have a ATI Radeon 9000 mobility
Linux mtst010 2.6.35-6-generic #9~lucid1-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jun 30 11:34:29 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux
X.Org X Server 1.7.6
KDE 4.4.5

kdm.log says:
drmRadeonCmdBuffer: -12. Kernel failed to parse or rejected command stream. See dmesg for more info.

dmesg:
[ 2128.536437] [drm:radeon_cs_ioctl] *ERROR* Failed to parse relocation -12!

syslog:
Jul  8 09:55:33 mtst010 anacron[866]: Job `cron.weekly' terminated
Jul  8 09:55:33 mtst010 anacron[866]: Normal exit (2 jobs run)
Jul  8 10:06:03 mtst010 kernel: [ 2128.536437] [drm:radeon_cs_ioctl] *ERROR* Failed to parse relocation -12!
Jul  8 10:06:04 mtst010 NetworkManager: <info>  (eth1): device state change: 8 -> 3 (reason 38)
Jul  8 10:06:04 mtst010 NetworkManager: <info>  (eth1): deactivating device (reason: 38).
Jul  8 10:06:04 mtst010 kdm[736]: X server for display :0 terminated unexpectedly

This happens very often. System is unuseable. But I can't say how to
reproduce. But I think it happens when I change the focus to an other
window or maximise a window
