I attempted the workaround by changing the line "#define XEN_CONFIG 1" in /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.27-2-generic/include/linux/autoconf.h to read 0 as the value instead.
This failed and the drivers reported the Xen error once again.

There are several other Xen-related options in autoconf.h as well, which
I will also modify to be 0 instead.
