Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: linux-image-generic
Similar to this bug - https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/224340 - the Intrepid kernel as of 2.6.27-2 has Xen support enabled.
This prevents the installation of the binary drivers from the Nvidia website, which I know I personally need to enable dropping from X to the virtual console (as this is a bug with the Nvidia drivers over which the development team have no control I did not report this).
I do not know whether the driver in the repositories has this problem; I
don't use them due to the aforementioned bug in the Nvidia drivers,
which was finally fixed in the 177.70 beta driver.
Xen support was also enabled in the previous 2.6.27-1 kernel.
There does appear to be a workaround by editing a line in autoconf.h in
the include files for the kernel, but I really don't know what this
does. As it is, I will try it in a few moments and see if it fixes the
problem.
