Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-restricted-modules

I have a ThinkPad R61 with nvidia quadro nvs140m. After updates, my xserver crashes. Attempts to fix by using dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg per the instructions in xorg.conf do not work. Nor does removing the xorg.conf file, and then starting x. The problem may be in the file /usr/share/linux-restricted-modules/2.6.22-12-generic/modules.alias.override/nvidia
Changing the line:
alias pci:v000010DEd00000429sv*sd*bc03sc*i* nvidia_legacy
to:
alias pci:v000010DEd00000429sv*sd*bc03sc*i* nvidia_new
allows successful use of nvidia-glx-new

** Affects: linux-meta (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
