If it happens, can you try the following key-combinations (which are
handled at progressively lower-levels) which are likely depending on the
state of the system; however if the caps-lock key doesn't change the
LED then it's a good indication of a likely lockup.
(b) Ctrl-alt-backspace (Kill X server)
(c) Ctrl-alt-del (Request shutdown)
(d) Alt-SysRq-s Alt-SysRq-u Alt-SysRq-b (Sync, Unmount, reBoot)
You said that the "PS/2 mouse is to verify". Does this mean that the
lockup does not occur when using the PS/2 mouse and only occurs when
using the Wireless MS one?
BTW, if you already have Ubuntu installed and want to do 'kubuntu', you
can do:
sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop
or select the 'kubuntu-desktop' package in the package-manager.
