Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.15-23-amd64-generic

Environment:
Dual opteron 270
16GB memory
Areca ARC-1110 4-port PCI-X SATA RAID

--Install from dapper amd64 beta install CD.
--Boot to shell from installer CD, patch /etc/mkinitramfs/modules to add arcmsr and run dpkg-reconfigure
--boot
--experience non-random file corruption. Most noticeable are corruptions in shared libraries that prevent basic tools from functioning. Most annoying are corruptions in libc6 and libstdcc++.

Fix: download latest arcmsr driver from areca.com.tw (1.20.0X.13),
compile, install kernel module. fsck becomes able to create a clean
filesystem, libraries stay uncorrupted after aptitude reinstall.

Comments:
arcmsr changelog reports a fix for 64bit systems with >4GB of memory in 1.20.0X.12. Ubuntu should upgrade to this version, at least. File corruption is a nasty and annoying problem.

Desired action:
put updated kernel module in next kernel release.

** Affects: linux-source-2.6.15 (Ubuntu)
       Severity: Normal
       Priority: (none set)
         Status: Unconfirmed
