Correction after more testing: it looks like the problem occurs after
resuming from suspend (ACPI_SLEEP_MODE=mem), but the network is okay
after hibernate.

Mem suspend otherwise works fine on this machine; I suspend frequently
with a wired cardbus networking card in place (3c59x) and haven't had
any network problems after resuming.

I forgot to mention in the original report that ejecting and re-
inserting the card is no help once this problem has begun. Things will
usually work normally for 10-30 seconds after re-inserting, then the
network becomes sporadic again.
