I have the same problem. Boot parameters acpi=off, acpi=noirq and pci=noacpi don't help.
Trying to load the module manually also trigger the hard freeze. (boot another OS, rename the module, boot, rename back, then run 'modprobe sis900' = freeze)

(PS. There's another entry for this bug, but I can't find it right now
