I have the same problem here, on a powerbook too.
However, I believe this isn't linked to the kernel but to udev, or whatever, since when I boot 2.6.15-12 (which I still have installed) I still get that dialog.
In fact, I believe there's already been a discussion in an older bug report about what the permissions should be. The fact is that although I get the error, nothing looks broken. I'll try to look for the old bug and report the result here.
