OK, just to really throw you for a loop, here... I decided to try out the fglrx drivers just to see if they'd work for my chip. They do, and upon waking up, with dri enabled, it's fine. No garbled video or anything.

The only problem there is, there is a line that follows the mouse around. I assume it's some sort of rendering artifact from the fglrx drivers. I would take a screenshot, but the mouse disappears when I do. It changes color based on where I clicked last, and is approximately a folder icon's height below the pointer and a folder icon and a half's width by 2 pixels high. Of course, this is most likely an ATi problem rather than an Ubuntu problem, but I digress.
