Public bug reported:

Affects: linux-source-2.6.15 (Ubuntu)
       Severity: Normal
       Priority: (none set)
         Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
My CD-Rom drive, a CD/DVD RW dual Layer drive
[ _NEC DVD_RW ND-3550A ]
was not recognized by Breezy, nor by Dapper 6.05, nor by Dapper 6.06.

Here is the fstab:
*****************
# /etc/fstab: static file system information.
#
# <file system> <mount point> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
/dev/hda9 / ext3 defaults,errors=remount-ro 0 1
/dev/hda1 /media/hda1 ntfs defaults 0 0
/dev/hda2 /media/hda2 ntfs defaults 0 0
/dev/hda3 /media/hda3 ext3 defaults 0 2
/dev/hda6 /media/hda6 ext3 defaults 0 2
/dev/hda7 /media/hda7 ext3 defaults 0 2
/dev/hda8 /media/hda8 ext3 defaults 0 2
/dev/sda1 /media/sda1 vfat defaults 0 0
/dev/sda2 /media/sda2 vfat defaults 0 0
/dev/sda3 /media/sda3 vfat defaults 0 0
/dev/hda5 none swap sw 0 0
/dev/hdc /media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user,noauto 0 0
/dev/fd0 /media/floppy0 auto rw,user,noauto 0 0
**************
however, /dev/hdc does not appear in the device manager as master of IDE1 [the second IDE channel] as it should, so it is not mounted.

I regret that my inexperience with Linux does not permit me to
investigate much beyond this point.
