It's wishlist because it's asking for something that's not there yet.
I'm surprised that this is useless without it; the synaptics driver should be configured to use /dev/input/mice and detect the appropriate "real" event device just like it does for other touchpads. Does this really not work? If not, please file another bug on synaptics because that damned well should!
Please try the following rule:
