I have an eMachines M5412 which has very similar symptoms: the PCMCIA socket
does not work, no IRQ, very similar 
messages on startup. I've attached the usual logging data (dmesg, /proc/iomem,
/proc/interrupts, lspci). 
I'm running Dapper Drake with the 2.6.12 kernel: I'll try running 2.6.13 and see
what happens. (I had
a look at the situation with patching but it seems far from simple; does anyone
have any guidance?).
