Unfortunately I've since sold my dodgy laptop and replaced it with a HP laptop
where everything works perfectly. I wish I could be of more help. You could try
reading through some threads like this:
http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/386334.html for clues.
Seems the latest 2.6.14 may indeed include the necessary patches, so you could
try that.
