OK there are 2 bugs. One is the NIC not working after Hoary installation. This
can be worked around, for now, by booting with the pci=noacpi parameter (or
other parameters). But this needs to be fixed! Is anything being done? Hello
Ubuntu developers?

The other bug is that the KDE network configuration tool (KControl) sometimes
does not save the gateway. I mean, I enter 192.168.0.1 for the gateway, but the
line "gateway 192.168.0.1" does not get added to /etc/network/interfaces. (The
configuration tool in Gnome works properly though.)

This is probably why after working around the first bug I still couldn't browse
the WAN.
