Sorry about reassigning the bug, weird that I even have the power to do it.

My NIC is the RTL-8139 -- same NIC and same symptoms of bug 9972.

I installed Kubuntu, this time from scratch instead of upgrading. Same problem
-- cant ping anything. But reading other bugs and all, I found out about kernel
parameters... pci=noacpi allows me to ping the LAN. I still cannot ping or
browse beyond my router though. I try to teach kcontrol about the address of my
router, but it doesnt stick...

In bug 9972 they mention using a Suse kernel copied into Ubuntu, will I have
other problems if I try that?
