I may have resolved this issue -- I removed an EISA Supra Express modem (model
3001303A, 28.8kbps) prior to trying an external modem, and I discovered the
2.6.10-5-386 kernel boots just fine now.
I apologize that I never even thought to try removing the cards earlier!
Do you need any additional information in case someone else hits this problem,
or should I mark this bug resolved?
