I tried the above suggestion. No luck. Here's my results:

benjamin at Mytilene:~$ sudo modprobe snd-au8810 pcifix=1
Password:
benjamin at Mytilene:~$ alsamixer

alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such device
benjamin at Mytilene:~$ aplay -l
aplay: device_list:200: no soundcards found...
