OK I found some further information on this. The Ubuntu Device Manager shows
this nic to have pci product code 0x4361. A check of PCI code lists (Craig's PCI
Programs Website) shows this to be a Yukon 88E8050 PCI-E ASF Gigabit Ethernet
Controller. This according to this kernel archive site:
http://www.ussg.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/0502.1/0008.html
appears to be a Yukon 2 card NOT CURRENTLY SUPPORTED by the skge module.
Further research shows that the author of skge Stephen Hemminger has not
included this support because the vendor has not released the card specs.
So it looks like I will need to recompile the vendor driver until this situation
it rectified. I am not a happy camper!
