Hi,

I've been upgrading through the dapper kernels without problem until hitting
2.6.15-8, where I see:

ata1: SATA link up 1.5Gbps ...
ata1: dev0 not supported, ignoring.

ata1:dev0 is my root fs, so at this point the boot panics and drops me to a
shell. /proc/partitions is empty; it's not the case that the drive's being
presented under /dev/hda instead of /dev/sda.

The same rootfs works with 2.6.15-6-amd64-k8-smp. The boot proceeds:

ata1: SATA max UDMA/100 cmd 0xFFFFC2000003A080 ctl 0xFFFFC2000003A08A bmdma
0xFFFFC2000003A000 irq 201
ata2: SATA max UDMA/100 cmd 0xFFFFC2000003A0C0 ctl 0xFFFFC2000003A0CA bmdma
0xFFFFC2000003A008 irq 201
ata1: dev 0 cfg 49:2f00 82:3069 83:7f69 84:4163 85:3069 86:3e01 87:4063 88:203f
ata1: dev 0 ATA-7, max UDMA/100, 488397168 sectors: LBA48
ata1: dev 0 configured for UDMA/100
scsi0 : sata_sil
ata2: no device found (phy stat 00000000)
scsi1 : sata_sil
Vendor: ATA Model: HDT722525DLA380 Rev: V44O
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 05
SCSI device sda: 488397168 512-byte hdwr sectors (250059 MB)
SCSI device sda: drive cache: write back
 sda: sda1 sda2 sda3 sda4 < sda5 sda6 >
sd 0:0:0:0: Attached scsi disk sda

I'd be happy to help debug this if I can. BenH points out that my error is
returned when ata_id_is_ata() returns false, and that the -8 kernel is using
stock source, so we're out of ideas.

- Chris.
