Here's an image of the problem.

I took it at a high resolution and with the flash off so you could best see
what's going on (sorry for the huge file).

There are only 2 terminal windows open on this screen.  The one that is in the
centre bottom is really just a flickering ghost of the one that's actually in
the bottom right.
