Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Sadly nobody sponsored this patch. Nowadays all supported
Ubuntu releases have libevent >= 2.0.18. Therefore I am closing this
bug.

  Fix Released

Bug description:
  The version of libevent included with precise (2.0.16-stable-1) will
  cause a consistent crash with Transmission. This crash does not occur
  with newer versions of libevent (fixed in 2.0.18). libevent version
  2.0.18-stable-1 or newer should be included in Ubuntu to correct this
  issue.
