Debian policy is very clear that the the description title is not
expected to include the package name:

https://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-binary.html#the-single-line-
synopsis

“Do not include the package name in the synopsis line.”

See https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+bug/655998
for the longstanding update-manager issue about how these are displayed.

Title:
Git packages should have better title for description

Status in git package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
Git packages have poor title for the description because GUI tools
assume that the package name is not needed to make the description
  understandable.

As a result, when update-manager ("Software Updates") shows list of
updates to install, I get update for "fast, scalable, distributed
revision control system" instead of something related to git.

See the attached screenshot, the only another package in this list
with equally poor description title is the "Virtualization daemon"
which is hard to understand when the package name is not displayed in
  addition to the description.

I'd recommend following description titles instead:

  git: "Git version control system"
git-cvs: "Git version control system, cvs interoperability"
git-all: "Git version control system, ??? support packages"

I'd also recommend checking the description of "git-all". It definitely doesn't install all git related packages but only following: git-doc, git-el, git-cvs, git-mediawiki, git-svn, git-email, git-gui, gitk, gitweb. For example, it doesn't install git-annex, git-buildpackage-rpm, git-cola, git-repair or git-review. On the other hand, it installs full emacs installation via dependencies!
