'packages that are already installed from PPAs often cause apt solver
issues like this.' shouldn't those 'solver issues' be resolved at once for
all users instead of enforcing all PPA users to randomly purge packages
until it will work ?
All in all, someone needs to understand the actual issue to resolve the
problem. And my understanding of bugs.launchpad.net is that this is a
platform for getting in deep into all problems which are shared across the
user base.

  Some dependencies arround ubuntu-desktop and gdm3 prevents me from do-
  release-upgrade. There are suggestions about purging PPAs, but this
  previously wasn't an issue as PPA were automatically disabled.
