Title:
[wishlist] offer to save the core dump for unknown applications

Status in apport package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: apport

This is just a small bonus which I think would be nice. Currently,
with ulimit one can specify whether one wishes all crashing
applications to dump core, but usually one is only interested in a
couple of applications. It would be nice if Apport had a mode in
which it asked the user whether to save a core file when a non-Ubuntu
application crashed (i.e. when I am developing myself, but do not wish
to run inside the debugger every time) - something like the setting in
Windows where you can automatically attach a debugger to a crashing
application, and something that Linux is still sorely missing.
