[Bug 1871641] Re: [i915 Penryn] Freeze at splash screen

It appears this is not a plymouth bug. Some other part of the system is
failing to start:

A start job is running for Hold until boot process finishes up (3min
7s / no limit)

I experienced a similar issue myself recently... In my case it was
/etc/fstab trying to mount a device that no longer existed. But this bug
might be different.

** Summary changed:

- Freeze at splash screen
+ [i915 Penryn] Freeze at splash screen

** Package changed: plymouth (Ubuntu) => ubuntu

** Summary changed:

- [i915 Penryn] Freeze at splash screen
+ Ubuntu never finishes booting: A start job is running for Hold until boot process finishes up (3min 7s / no limit)

Title:
Ubuntu never finishes booting: A start job is running for Hold until
boot process finishes up (3min 7s / no limit)

Status in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Boot process freezes at the splash screen and nothing happens after
that. The computer can be suspended and it is able to return from
suspend. Boot is possible by pressing escape early in the process to
  bypass plymouth.
