@Steve I opened this bug because the description on bug #1815002 focuses on Btrfs not being writable for the /boot partition.
My /boot partition is ext4 using LVM, not Btrfs. My /boot/efi partition is vfat without LVM.
Are you saying that bug you marked as duplicated also affects ext4 partitions using LVM? Because that's not mentioned in the description or any of the comments in that bug report.
Overriding the timeout is not even a workaround. If I set it to 0, then
if an actual boot error happens, then I won't be able to see the dialog
anymore. This is a regression since for as long as I remember, I've been
using LVM with ext4 and I never had to wait, and when there were errors
or interruptions when booting, I did see the GRUB dialog.
I even mentioned in this bug description the bug marked as duplicated,
but again, it's focused on Btrfs and not all LVM systems. So somebody
has to edit that bug report to make it broader or keep this one open.

Title:
Update causes 30 sec boot delay on EFI system, with NVMe and LVM
Status in grub2 package in Ubuntu:
Opinion
Bug description:
This bug is similar to #1814403 which has been fixed but not for all
systems.
As mentioned in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1814403/comments/16
I have an NVMe drive with two partitions, one is an LVM partition for the root (/), which includes /boot (except for /boot/efi). The second partition has /boot/efi.
With this configuration, GRUB keeps showing the dialog no matter what, and it's always for 30 seconds.
There are two more comments in that bug report with similar problems:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1814403/comments/28
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1814403/comments/29
There's also a bug report for Btrfs systems, which might is not
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1815002), hence
this bug report.
