  Can't Upgrade to 18.04 from 16.04

Bug description:
  I have been trying to upgrade to ubuntu 18.04 from 16.o4 for the past
  couple days, but it won't allow me to do it. I think the problem might
  be that I installed Ubuntu GNOME when that was still a separate
  distro, and that might have broken my system.
